leaving teaching
have just resigned from teaching so will be looking for another job come july time.
i feel a bit nervous but also quite relieved as i have been miserable since the new year
i could be a classroom assistant for maths - pays a bit less but would be a fun job to do i think
any thoughts?

snow
3 days off work so far cos of the snow
it is quite bad here - 9 inches of snow. Worst snow here for over 30 years apparently
and the same debate rages - should schools be open or closed in these extreme conditions? what do you think as i am curious (to me there is no definite answer as i can see both sides of the dbeate)

hello long time no see livejournal
Yes i am still teaching, yes still enjoying it. Sold my warhammer last week to get some quick cash and more space in my house. Break up December 17th and return January 5th if anyone wanted to meet during that time, i'll try to see what space i have

rant time :)
Well has been a lovely summer so far and i have enjoyed the first two weeks of the holidays so lets do the lovely part first.
Week 1 was in oxford meeting Andrew, Phil, Ben, Kenny, Esther, Queenie and various others. I went paintballing one day and meeting friends during the others. Was fantastic meeting up with friends again after such a long time, also the bedding was really comfy. Was a pity not seeing others but circumstances made it impossible (so next time miriam, garry, jj and frankie :)).
Week 2 was Cornwall for Ned's wedding where i saw jess again which was nice. Also kenny and Queenie came down as well and we have done various exploring of Truro and Falmouth. I also watched G-Force and it was fantasic :D (at this point i say welcome back Emily to the UK)
So has been rather good.
Anyway Rant time...
One friend in Oxford has been a right pain the last few months. Everytime we arrange something they dont bother turning up - they no longer communicate - they ignore msn, emails, texts, calls. They give their "excuses" to other people other than me and its quite pathetic. Its just not me it happens to either - they have got into this habit now. If they dont want to keep in contact with me why not just say? Maybe i should get the hint as i made the error of going to dinner with their "enemies" 3 months ago on one of my whistlestop tours in oxford - i mean how dare i have other friends!!!???
*phew* rant over -
anyway garry and miriam - if either or you are in oxford this month give me a shout and i can get there for a daytrip if you wanted?

snow
is great - i was only in school 1 day this week. The conditions were fine (perhaps my alaskan side says this).
Got to oxford friday via walking and hitch hiking (however not as interesting as bob and jason's adventure)
took 25 minutes to walk from marlow to high wycombe to get a train but it was cancelled and then this person asks where i'm going and i say oxford - they say hop in, they are going to wheatley IDEAL.
I didnt know the person but they said they knew me
they were actually going to wheatley
they were driving a black merc with blacked out windows and a private number plate.
(were these danger signs)
anyway on the M40 just as we pass junction 5 he says i love picking random people up (in my mind - OH MY F***ING GOD I'M GOING TO DIE) but it was fine - got to wheatley and i got out and thanked him. Then i took 45 minutes to walk from wheatley to gipsy lane to stay at esthers for the weekend.
Tonigth to celebrate the fact i didnt get raped or killed or made to listen to r'n'b i am going to get drunk - cocktails in town then vodka jelly and all.
anyway back to snow - this country should grow a pair of balls - honestly

update
should be working on my misconceptions folder due for inspection tomorrow but oh well.
Anyway i'm now in my second placement at a school in high wycombe which is a fairly rough school (24% leave with 5 A-C) Compare to school 1 which had 84% achieivng this.
Also had a chair thrown at me on my second day. Great kids lol. From next week i'm teaching these classes (from tuesday as i'm at brookes on monday). Anyway i paint this as a bad experience don't i? Well i'm kind of enjoying it so don't worry
ANyway, best suprise came at the end of the week where i was asked to help with this afterschool club on "wargaming". More 40K armies than i have ever seen before!!! But they have changed loads of rules - the basics have changed now and i felt a little lost. Apparently some used to do roleplaying as well and are looking for a GM.
Considering one of my criteria for module 5 is participating in extra curricular activities - would this include cthulhu? LOL

happier and well again (almost)
One day a farmer posted a sign out in his yard saying, "For Sale, One Donkey, $100"
A neighbor happened to pass by, read the sign, and told the farmer, "I would like to purchase your donkey. Here is the $100. I will go home tonight, clean out a stall in my barn, and return in the morning to fetch the donkey."
The farmer agreed to this. The next morning the neighbor stopped by to collect his animal. The farmer unfortunately had some bad news. "I'm afraid the donkey died last night." said the farmer.
"Well, can I have my money back?" asked the neighbor.
"I'm afraid I spent it all and cannot return it to you." replied the farmer.
"Fine," said the neighbor. "Give me the donkey anyway."
About a month later the farmer saw the neighbor walking by his farm and stopped him. "Hey, whatever happened to that donkey?"
"Oh, that!" replied the neighbor. "I actually made quite a bit of money off it."
"How did you do that?" asked the farmer.
"Well, you see, I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at $2.00 apiece and made $998.00."
"But it was dead!" cried the farmer. "Didn't anyone complain?"
The neighbor replied, "Only the guy who won. So, I gave him his $2.00 back."

woo spare moment
these are rare -time for brief update
PGCE - Absolutely loving it at the moment, any doubts i had seem to have disappeared at the moment, i'm really liking the school i'm in currently and i'm rather enjoying the work i'm doing.
Weekend - In oxford, stayed with harry was absolutely great, done some shopping have toat now (waited ages for this) and then had a pubcrawl where i got slightly drunk :) Also worked open day at brookes so got some paid work :)
Darts - Lost 11-3 on friday, i played well so i was happy. We have more points than tottenham :D
live - Is good :)

2 weeks to go
finally my project is nearing completion, cant wait till thats over then i need to finish packing. Went to watch x-files i want to believe on saturday. Wasn't that bad but i still left feeling slightly dissappointed - Billy Connoley was rather good in it though. Dont know any other x-file fans so no idea what anyone else thought.

Summer
It is proceeding along nicely, i have just over 3 weeks left in my house and its getting to the stage where i can not wait to move on due to a number of factors, the biggest one being that i can't wait to start my pgce next year.
Work at the moment is very slow and it seems that the project i'm working on for brookes is going to look like a bit of a failure so i've helped brookes spent 12K on a project which seems to have not been that much of a sucess yet :(.
Today in the office i have spent money on graduation stuff, maths teaching books and season 2 of doctor who with added david tennant :D

Busy Week this week, almost full time work which is nice, exhausting but nice come the end of the month i will have money :). Been rather social this week as well which is nice :). Monday was spent in the company of my dart team at the Black Swan (James Street off Cowley Road). irish pubs are always fun - we won 6-3 and i played rather decently in the pairs :) this was a nice evening after training for Professor Fluffy (Primary School Project) and office work
Tuesday done a Year 10 Passport then went off the the White Horse for some darts with Jon, Harry and Jason. Was fun, i won so was happy LOL.
Wednesday long day in the office, VERY tiring. Went to a BBQ in the evening at Kennys then went home for some much needed sleep.
Thursday another Passport, actually my last ever passport session :'( and then had a leaving do for Lina in the White Horse after with a quiz which once again showed that i am CRAP at quizzes, although at least i knew more than harry did XD
Today done some Professor Fluffy and i am off to a 21st party tonight although i am meant to be dressed as someone else, last time i dressed for something i was the only one who tried so this time i will go as me, although i might play identity theft later hehe

6 weeks - its been that long
well been a long time LOL. So heres a list of things done
Finished my undergraduate degree - sneakingly got my Jack the Ripper back and is a provisional 62 (First ever 2.1 history module FUCK YEAH ITS A DOUBLE)
Done a week placement in Primary School - fun
Started my summer job hence still in oxford (i'm here until August 18th so i might possibly see you Sarah and Miriam before i leave?)
Hosted eurovision party on saturday - got badly drunk by the costume changes and dry ice. Also got the booby prize for picking the UK out of the hat - they came last (Russia won).
Apart from that i seem to have taken up risk well happened at the right time :)

Eurovision 2008
Ok, so the season is nearly upon us (you groan, i cheer) and that is the world of eurovision. So far 35 countries out of 43 have picked their song for Belgrade which is this years host city. 38 of these songs will take part in 2 semi-finals on the 20th and 22nd May 2008 and the top 10 from each will progress to the final on the 24th where they will join the hosts, Serbia and the Big Four (France, Germany, Spain and the UK).
Ok so we begin with Semi-Final One (Running Order not been decided yet, so i'll tackle the countries in alphabetical order).
Andorra - Giesla was on the Spanish version of Pop Idol back in 2002 and was a backing singer of spain's 2002 entry. Last year she tried to represent Spain but failed. Andorra picked by Internally (i.e. No National Final). The song is called "Casanova" and is very different to previous andorran entrys and that is that there is only one sentance in Catalan. This is a very pop song which is pleasant and may qualify. Thomas gives this 6/10.

Armenia - Armenia have selected Sirusho as their artist for Belgrade. She performed four songs in Today's National Final and the song that is going to be sung is "Qele Qele" which i think is in Armenian. I've not had a chance to hear this yet so that will be on the additional review.
Azerbaijan - First ever appearance at Eurovision. They held a national final and the winning team going are Elnur Gusseinov featuring Samir J. The song is called "Day after Day". The presentation is rather great but the song is sadly rather forgetable and the opera is a little bad IMO. But make your own judgement. Thomas gives 3/10

Belguim - They pick their song Tomorrow (Sunday)
Bosnia and Herzoginva - Another internal selection. Laka is going to Belgrade with Pokusaj. This is a rather strange song. Ignore the presentation on the video as this wont be the finished product (no live animals allowed and only 6 people on stage). This is not a joke entry, in english the song is much more serious and i've heard that the song will be a mix of english and bosnian at eurovision. Thomas gives 8/10

The noticeboard
1 exam done. Wasnt as good as hoped for but it could have been worse. Fingers crossed for this module. (coursework of 30% was 68% so i went into the exam with 20.4 marks out of an available 30).
Next exam on thursday
On more interesting matters, Moldova has published their 27 songs in contention for their space in eurovision. Heres the website for them (if it interests anybody)

Paradise Lost
So have 2 exams this semester. Numerical Analyis 1 (friday 14th) and Maths for Decision (thurs 20th). Will be starting my revision schedule on monday once i get my materials back from the lecturer. So this weekend has been designated as paradise weekend.
However in the world of paradise there is a dark cloud on the horizon blotting out the sunshine, the closer it gets an earthquake is felt and the tremor knocks everything out. The coconut trees, my doctor who book my eurovision cds and my chocolate bar falls into the sea. The storm approaches and i fight to struggle against it and not get caught up in its effects. It rumbles up the beach tearing the sand high into the air. I struggle to run but cant outrun the oncoming storm and hostility i can sense from it.
Then when all seems lost i see something in the distance, is it a bird or a plane? no it's richard driving a midnight blue dominator. Oh my hero!!!!
